Local
City of Barcelona

On June 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Canòdrom – Ateneu d’Innovació Digital i Democràtica will host the presentation of the book Reclaiming Participatory Governance, which examines the strategies employed by social movements to change political institutions and how these strategies have thrived in various contexts.

A variety of social movements around the world have attempted to influence the State through new forms of democratic participation. The main ambition and challenge of these new forms of participation is to institutionalize the values of radical democracy and social justice that inspire them. The authors of this volume explore the impact of this phenomenon in various countries around the world.

The authors highlight the challenges and opportunities that these new forms of governance present, including the need to manage tensions between different actors and the possibilities for more radical democratic renewal. Additionally, they examine how new forms of participatory governance are influencing the relationship between social movements and the State.

During the event, different speakers will present their views and criticisms:

  • Gala Pin, Member of Congress for Sumar-En Comú Podem

  • Igor Ahedo, Professor of Political Science and Principal Researcher at Parte Hartuz, University of the Basque Country
